Tony Auth is more of a chronic pessimist than a knee-jerk Democrat. He can be relied on to expect the worst in every situation. Not that it's always bad to think that way. The polity prospers on true diversity, and becomes vulnerable when intellectual monoculture predominates.

True, JJ. And unlike political writers, the political cartoonist's job is to distort and exaggerate to make us think. I wish the political writers at The Philadelphia Inquirer understood the difference.

Today Tony Auth has a cartoon which actually seems to support Paul Wolfowitz over the insiders at the World Bank. "Wolfie" is the cowboy trying to ride a giant rodeo pig. He's hanging on for dear life.
