The pseudo-liberals who plague the Democratic Party will suffer a humiliating defeat Nov. 7 when Connecticut re-elects one of the U.S. Senate’s last true liberals, Joe Lieberman.
Apparently, the supporters of Lieberman’s anti-liberation opponent, Ned Lamont, already are tasting the bitter gravy on the defeat they’ll have jammed down their throats in five days.
As The New York Observor reports:
Life for Mr. Lamont has changed dramatically since the heady days of his victory over incumbent Senator Joe Lieberman in August’s primary. There is still a week to go until Election Day, but the enthusiasm that impelled his unlikely insurgency has ebbed. The exhilarating Lamont experiment has fizzled….
The apparent end of the much-ballyhooed Lamont phenomenon is causing a great deal of soul-searching and recrimination in all corners of the Democratic Party. The bloggers that once championed Mr. Lamont as an awkward but earnest savior now alternately blame Washington’s strategists for hijacking their candidate and Democratic leaders for abandoning him.
Less mad money. Lamont spent $12.7 million of his own money attempting to defeat Lieberman. That’s $12.7 million he won’t be able to use again trying to turn Iraq over to complete chaos, scuttling its only chance for democracy and the peace only freedom can bring.
That’s $12.7 million Lamont won’t be able to use again trying to destroy a liberal.
