This is a wonderful post Frank. I can't disagree with a thing. The one thing I wanted to add was that the freedom of Eastern Europe was also effected by means of war. It might have been a Cold War, but it was nonetheless real and was waged by people who made great sacrifices and unpopular decisions in defense of a noble cause.

Noble as it may have been, it was absolutely necessary when you consider the alternative. If we had not been a bulwark against Stalin and his ideological children, the USSR would have parasitized the rest of the world until we all succumbed together in the inevitable collapse of that evil and foolish system.

Someday even the Russians will understand that Mikhail Gorbachev and Boris Yeltsin were their greatest leaders.
