Hawaiian Gov. Neil Abercrombie is trying to steer attention from the American public's historical right to see President Obama's birth certificate by pretending to offer other evidence that Obama was born in Hawaii.
Gov. Abercrombie, we don't care if he was born in Hawaii. We assume he was. We just want to see Obama's original birth certificate. We want to see every word written on that original document, in the doctors' and nurses' original handwriting.
Why? Because it's a part of the history of a president of the United States. Exactly why shouldn't we see it? Why do we have to look at a document, a birth certification printed out by computer in 2007, that shows only part of the information? I'm sure the original certificate shows Obama was born in Hawaii, but I'm interested in all the historical details the document would reveal.
Ask authorization. If the president has to authorize release of that original birth certificate, Gov. Abercrombie, ask him for authorization and release it. Holy cow, let's see it. What exactly is holding up the release?

Update: The historical curiosity is strong. Abercrombie is feeling the pressure to produce the original birth certificate, and he reportedly can't find it. Is that possible? There's a Jan. 20, 2011, report that there is, after all, no original birth certificate, but only a note or listing of a name and date. What? When was that "note" or "listing" noted or listed?
If that's all there is, that is not a birth certificate, which under Hawaii law must be kept secret from anyone but the person involved and others with a "tangible interest." Because the information is not a certificate, the public should be permitted to see it without the president's consent. And Obama should consent to its disclosure in any case. Again, I am sure he was born in Hawaii. But I want to know how his birth was recorded. Forget the "birthers." Shouldn't every journalist and historian want to see this?
On Jan. 21, 2011, Abercrombie's staff put out a statement he is ending his quest to document Obama's birth. That was quick, and what a failure. He's citing Hawaii's privacy law. Why doesn't he just ask Obama to authorize release of everything Hawaii has on his birth?
