So you have to be in the military to fight for liberty? I think Americans, on the whole, stand up for liberty in many different ways, like writing a blog about it ... just as a for instance.

I think Kevin's point is that the armed forces of the United States often are called to do all the hard and heroic work on their own, with little support from the American public or even from the public leaders who sent the GIs out in the first place.
It's tough enough doing a lonely, thankless and dangerous job. All too often, the job is belittled, even scorned, by those who sleep safe and free in large part because of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines.

OK. But I think there is more support among American civilians than is generally recognized.
