Former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami is calling the outcome of disputed elections a "velvet coup" against democracy.
If only Khatami were so bold when he was president.

Yah, he could be hanging out with the six Mousavi supporters referred to in this article. Of course, it's not the kind of hanging out most of us want to do.

There are a lot of people sticking their necks out, politically powerful people. Most of them are indistinguishable in terms of support for authoritarian theocracy, but at least they are willing to risk their lives for the principle of fair democratic voting.

At this point, at least from an outsiders perspective, it looks like it could go either way. It seems to me that the Iranian military holds the key. If they side with Khatami it could spell a new chapter in Iranian rule. If they go with Khamenei a lot of people in Iran are going to go missing.
