The wonderful thing about columnist Tom Friedman is that he regularly reveals what his Democratic friends really believe about the liberation of Iraq (it was necessary and noble, and is a success), but he always throws in a line that everyone knows is a lie (Democrats could have done it better).
So I’m not sure why some readers are surprised, now that President Bush has turned Iraq into a beacon of hope for other Arabs yearning to be free, Friedman is writing that President-elect Obama can turn Iraq into a beacon of hope for other Arabs yearning to be free.
That’s what Friedman is there for -- to take the hard and heroic work of unselfish people, and it make look like the work of Democrats.
We all know better.
