Was NASA hiding anything on Mars?

Much has been made of the fact that, in this photo of Mars from the rover Spirit, a chunk of the picture in the lower left corner is missing.

The question is, What is NASA hiding? It’s probably just an area the rover spacecraft didn't get around to scanning that day.

A panorama picture shows the same area (in the center) with no area blacked out.

Of course, the conspiracy theorists will say that, by the time the second photo was taken, NASA had moved either (A) the CIA agent in the T-shirt or (B) the dead Martian.

Do you think that NASA is really hiding something?

In a word: No.

It's fun to watch the conspiracy theorists.

Jordan,

Frank is referring indirectly to a very complex and carefully documented conspiracy theory which suggests that the U.S. govt. staged the entire Apollo program in Hollywood. People have invested thousands of hours in this bizarre idea, originally promoted by the Flat Earth Society (check Wikipedia). There is also a tradition among UFO enthusiasts that the U.S. govt. is hiding evidence of intelligent extra-terrestrial life. These people are easy to make fun of, but it's more compassionate to just nod your head and say, "That's amazing isn't it. By the way, what's your sign?"

It has been found that nasa has tampered with the color of the images that it has released to the public. Mars' sky is accually blue and looks much like our planet.

That's amazing isn't it. By the way, what's your sign?
